How I handle your information, and the terms for using this website.
Privacy policy
Updated: 14 October 2026
This notice explains how Melanie England uses personal information when you visit melanieengland.com, make an enquiry or work with me on website design or SEO. It provides information about your privacy; visiting this website does not mean you consent to optional tracking or marketing.
Who is responsible for your information?
Melanie England, sole trader
10C Park Avenue, Harrogate, North Yorkshire HG2 9BQ, United Kingdom
hello@melanieengland.com
Information you provide
The contact form asks for your name, email address and enquiry. Your website and the service you are interested in are optional. I also receive information you send by email or in our business conversations, such as contact details, business information, project materials and relevant updates.
If you become a client, I use the information needed to organise the work, communicate with you, keep agreements and invoices, and provide the services you have requested. Please avoid including sensitive personal information or other people’s confidential details in a general enquiry.
Why I use it
- Enquiries and requested quotes: to respond and take steps towards a contract at your request. For general business correspondence, I rely on legitimate interests in answering messages and running the business.
- Client work: to carry out our agreement, manage the project and communicate about the services.
- Business records and security: to meet legal obligations where applicable, and for legitimate interests in maintaining appropriate records, protecting the website and dealing with disputes.
- Optional website analytics: with your consent, to understand how visitors use the site and improve it.
I do not currently send newsletters or marketing email campaigns. Sending an enquiry does not subscribe you to a mailing list.
Website and analytics information
The website runs on WordPress. Hosting and security systems may process technical information such as IP addresses, browser details, requested pages and error or security logs to operate and protect the site.
Google Analytics 4 is loaded only after you select “Allow analytics.” It can record information about your device and browser, approximate location, pages viewed and interactions. You can decline analytics and still use the website and contact form. Select “Analytics choices” to change your preference later; withdrawing consent does not affect earlier processing carried out with your consent.
See the cookie policy below and Google’s privacy policy for more information.
Services that help operate the website
Information is processed by the providers needed to operate the website, deliver messages and provide services. These include website hosting and email providers, WordPress and WPForms for contact-form processing, Google for consented analytics, and Trustindex for the Google review widget. Loading review widgets can involve requests to Trustindex and Google for review content and images, which disclose technical connection information such as your IP address.
I may also disclose information where required by law or where necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal rights. I do not sell your personal information.
Some providers may process information outside the UK. The applicable protections depend on the provider and destination. Google’s information about its processing and transfer safeguards is available in its business privacy information. Contact me if you need more detail about providers involved in handling your enquiry or client information.
How long information is kept
Information is kept only for as long as it is needed for the purpose described here. Retention depends on whether an enquiry becomes a client relationship, the duration of the services, any follow-up or dispute, and applicable accounting or other legal record-keeping requirements. Once information is no longer needed, it should be deleted or anonymised; copies in backups may remain until those backups are replaced.
You can ask what information I hold about you and how its retention period is determined.
Your rights and complaints
Depending on the circumstances, you have rights to access your information, correct it, request deletion, restrict its use, object to processing and receive a portable copy. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw that consent. These rights are subject to the conditions and exceptions in data protection law.
Contact hello@melanieengland.com to make a request or raise a concern. You can also complain to the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Changes to this notice
I will update this notice if the way information is used changes. The date above identifies the latest version.
Terms and conditions

About this website
melanieengland.com is operated by Melanie England, a sole trader based at 10C Park Avenue, Harrogate, North Yorkshire HG2 9BQ. Contact: hello@melanieengland.com.
These terms relate to use of this website. They do not replace a separate written quote, proposal or agreement for website design, SEO, hosting or support. Visiting the site or sending an enquiry does not itself book a service or create an obligation to pay.
Website design and SEO services
The service pages describe the kinds of work available. The specific scope, deliverables, fees, payment dates, timescales and any ongoing commitments should be agreed in writing before paid work starts. Changes to an agreed scope should also be confirmed in writing.
For client projects, arrangements for supplying content and access, revisions, ownership and licences, third-party costs, hosting, maintenance, cancellations and ending ongoing work belong in the relevant project agreement.
SEO performance is affected by competition, search-engine changes and other factors outside my control. There is no promise of a particular ranking, traffic level, number of enquiries or revenue unless a specific commitment has been expressly agreed in writing. Examples and testimonials describe those clients’ experiences and do not guarantee the same outcome for every business.
Using the site
You may browse the website and share links when considering or discussing my services. You must not misuse the site, interfere with its operation, attempt unauthorised access, introduce harmful code or send unlawful, abusive or misleading material through its forms.
Please provide accurate contact details when making an enquiry and do not submit material you are not entitled to share.
Content and intellectual property
Website text, design, images and branding belong to Melanie England or their respective rights holders, unless stated otherwise. You must not copy, republish or use that material commercially without permission or another lawful basis. Client website examples and third-party logos remain subject to their owners’ rights.
Ownership or licensing of work created for a client is governed by that client’s agreement; these website terms do not transfer those rights.
Third-party links and availability
The site links to client websites and other resources. Their content, services and privacy practices are controlled by their respective operators. A link is not a guarantee of their availability or accuracy.
I aim to keep this website useful and accurate, but it may contain errors or be unavailable during maintenance or technical problems. Check important project details directly with me. You remain responsible for the security of your own device and connection.
Privacy and cookies
The privacy policy explains how personal information is used. The cookie policy explains analytics and related choices. Optional analytics requires the choice described there; using this site is not treated as consent to those cookies.
Your legal rights
Nothing here excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation or death or personal injury caused by negligence. Nothing removes statutory rights that apply to you or changes obligations under an existing client agreement.
These website terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory rights or jurisdiction rules that apply. If any part is unenforceable, the remaining terms continue to apply so far as permitted by law.
Questions and updates
If you have a question or complaint, please email hello@melanieengland.com so we can discuss it. Updated website terms apply from their publication date; they do not retrospectively amend an existing client agreement.
Refunds
Payment and refund arrangements for a service should be set out in the written quote or agreement for that work. Contact hello@melanieengland.com if you have a concern about a payment or service. Nothing on this page removes statutory rights that apply to you or changes an existing client agreement.
Cancellations
To discuss cancelling, postponing a project or ending ongoing SEO, email hello@melanieengland.com. Notice periods and any applicable charges depend on the written agreement for your service. This page does not introduce a new notice period or cancellation charge.
